3rd CoastColour User Consultation Meeting

 Lisbon, Portugal on 19 - 20 October, 2011

CoastColour Products Interactive Workshop and Training Course
Faculty of Sciences - University of Lisbon
Building C3, ground floor, 3.1.05

Friday 21st of October 2011

On Friday, 21 October, following the UCM3, we offered a one-day "CoastColour Products Interactive Workshop and Training Course" at no charge. 20 participants attended this demonstration / training, which had been given using the BEAM software. The structure of the CoastColour products and tools for analysis have been demonstrated in lectures and hand-ons. Most participants had already experience with the software and dedicated questions for data processing and analysis could be discussed.

BEAM is an open-source toolbox and development platform for viewing, analysing and processing of remote sensing raster data.
The software is used within CoastColour to process more than 35TB of MERIS FRS products. It provides the implemented CoastColour processors for L1P, L2R and L2W processing.

The purpose of the training course was:

  • Introduction to the software, basic tools and band arithmetics
  • Introduction to important processors (e.g. L3 binning, georectification, water processors)
  • Applications (validation with in-situ data, algorithm comparison, time series)
